Dr. Robert Capra is an Assistant Professor at School of Information and Library Science. In his course Fundamentals of Programming Information Applications, he made use of an open-source textbook, “How to Think Like a Computer Scientist”. This interactive book enables students to seamlessly read, run, and modify example code, which significantly increased the amount of hands-on engaged learning time. The self-assessment tools also helps students gauge their understanding of the material. The OER resources allowed him to structure his class in ways that would have otherwise been difficult to achieve.
